TATA STEEL: Optimization of Inert Gas Systems to Mitigate an Active Fire

Coal Sector
Koveva is assisting Tata Steel Inc. to control underground coal fires at an active mine site near Jharkhand, India. We are responsible for helping Tata Steel organize and analyze data, perform additional fieldwork, and design and optimize an inert gas system that has been installed at the site in an effort to suffocate the fire. Koveva is uniquely positioned to help optimize their inert gas firefighting system by borrowing from our patent-pending inert gas fire suppression design that was developed in 2010. Based on initial results, methane combustion appears to be a contributing factor at these fires. We are pursuing the opportunity to capture and utilization the methane.
