A high resolution coal fire characterization was conducted at the Wise Hill Fire near Craig, Colorado, using a three-phased approach. In Phase 1, general geological information at each of the fire sites was documented. In Phase 2, field data, including methane flux, magnetic anomalies, gas compositions, and relevant surface features, were collected, analyzed, and integrated in order to generate a conceptual picture of how the coal fire was consuming the coal in the subsurface. Areas affected by the coal fire were also delineated. In Phase 3, recommendations were made to the Colorado Department of Reclamation Mining and Safety regarding future actions to take at each of the three fire locations.
